Swept Away By Booksis the book review blog run by Alyssa Hamilton, a publishing student, bookseller, book reviewer, and the author coordinator at Adventures in YA Publishing. I love her Waiting on Weds features and her Top Ten picks as well as her reviews. She’s got a sneak peek review of Compulsion up with the giveaway, and yeah, I love that too. :D
Curling Up With A Good Book is a recent discovery. Beth read Compulsion and her enthusiasm was so delightful that I went to look at her blog. She’s an advocate for the books she loves, and her joy in books is infectious. When she doesn’t like something, she says it in a respectful way and leaves room for people to make up their own minds. You can tell she appreciates every aspect of the writing and reading process.
YA Interrobang, the truly excellent new YA lit magazine spearheaded by Nicole Brinkley and her team. Check there for author features and book news, plus agent features and information on breaking in. Next issue is May 4th with another issue on May 18th. Because this is a magazine and not a traditional blog, the giveaway here is going to be a little different. Stay tuned. : )
And I’ll be signing at BEA, so there will be ARCs there as well. Stop by to say hello if you’re at the Javits Center!
JUNE GIVEAWAYS: ATTENTION BLOGGERS
If you’re a blogger and you’d like to host a giveaway in June, let me know. I’m trying to pick a mix of bigger and smaller blogs, newer blogs and more established. There are so many wonderful book people out there!
COMPULSION has a beautiful new cover. Here’s a teaser for the book and a final reveal.
Want a closer look?
Regina Flath and the team at Simon Pulse did a wonderful job on this. I love the slightly magical feel to it, the hint of darkness, and the way the curlicue is reminiscent both of wrought iron and hearts. It reminds me of a line in the book.
The path in the cover image also reminds me of the oak-lined alley that leads from the main gate at Watson’s Landing to the worn-down house. It’s a voyage to somewhere magical, but Barrie doesn’t know that when she first arrives.
Barrie has a long way to go once she arrives on the wide main steps beneath the portico, and I’m looking forward to inviting readers to take that journey with her. Of course, Barrie will be rocking some fabulous heels on the trip. As someone close to her points out:
That may be true, but Barrie also sees no point in doing great things if she can’t be herself. It comes down to thinking bigger and stretching her perception of what’s possible.
For that, she has a little help. Eight Beaufort is the kind of inspiration any girl would love to have around.
In Eight’s honor, I’m doing eight giveaways to celebrate the new cover of Compulsion. Each one consists of:
A personalized ARC of COMPULSION,
Asterling silver key necklace similar to one of the three keys Barrie wears in the book, and
A few books I love signed by some of my favorite authors.
Here’s the one for the Rafflecopter below. It’s for SIX books, plus the ARC of Compulsion, plus the beautiful silver necklace.

COMPULSION By Martina Boone Hardcover October 28, 2014 ISBN: 18732883 Simon & Schuster, Simon Pulse
Three plantations. Two wishes. One ancient curse.
When loss is all you know, how do you find true love?
All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lived with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead—a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.
Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family’s twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

What I think a lot of people don’t realize is that even now, after two published books (three in January!) from one of the largest publishers in the world, hitting the NY Times bestseller list, doing dozens of bookstore events, speaking at ComicCon and for the ALA…even now, more often than not, I…
I heard what you said. I’m not the silly romantic you think. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want…a steady hand. A kind soul. I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love, and be loved.
